Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame Induction Categories & Criteria

PLAYER AWARD

Purpose: To recognize the achievements of outstanding Manitoba lacrosse players.

Eligibility Requirements: The candidate must:

  1. have from the age of 15 years and on compiled an outstanding performance record with notable personal and team achievements while competing at the high school, junior, senior, college and/or professional level over the required minimum of 8 years or more.
  2. have developed his/her skills in the Manitoba minor and/or high school lacrosse system and/or resided in the province during the period for which outstanding performance is claimed.
  3. have represented the game of lacrosse with distinction in competition, either in or out of Manitoba, and brought credit to the sport.
  4. have retired from competing as a player and attained the minimum age of 40 years.

BUILDER AWARD

Purpose: To recognize the contribution, leadership and abilities of those individuals who participate in the development and organization of the sport of lacrosse in Manitoba.

Eligibility Requirements: The candidate must:

  1. have been active in one or more capacities serving lacrosse, such as coach, manager, executive/administrator, referee.
  2. have demonstrated outstanding service and leadership in the sport of lacrosse in Manitoba extending over the required minimum of 10 years or more
  3. have represented the game of lacrosse with distinction in competition, either in or out of Manitoba, and brought credit to the sport.

PLAYER / BUILDER AWARD

Purpose: To recognize those individuals whose achievements as outstanding players, AND their contribution and leadership in the development of lacrosse as builders, would stand alone in either of the above categories - yet deserve recognition for their career in the sport as a whole.

Eligibility Requirements: The candidate must:

  1. meet the combined requirements listed above in the Player and Builder categories.

Note: Should the individual's performance be deemed to fall short in either one of the categories, the nominee may be reclassified in that category where his/her qualifications meet the criteria.

TEAM AWARD

Purpose: To recognize outstanding accomplishments of Manitoba lacrosse teams.

Eligibility Requirements: The candidate must

  1. have represented the game of lacrosse with great distinction in competition, either in or out of Manitoba, and brought great credit to the sport.

CRITERIA DESCRIPTORS / RATIONALE

YEARS OF HIGH PERFORMANCE - Rating based on total years of consistently high performance, achievements and recognition at the local, provincial, regional, national and/or international level of competition.

Refer to criteria below for Player, Builder and Team categories. Assessment as follows:

PLAYER (minimum eligibility 8 years): #1 = 8 yrs; #2 = 9-10 yrs; #3 = 11-12 yrs; #4 = 13-14 yrs; #5 = 15+ yrs.

BUILDER (minimum eligibility 10 years): #1 = 10 yrs; #2 = 11-12 yrs; #3 = 13-14 yrs; #4 = 15-16 yrs; #5 = 17+ yrs.

TEAM would be recognized that has won a national title (#5) or international championship (#5) in one or more years, or for its prominence/domination of the sport locally, provincially and/or regionally over a number of years (#1 - #4).

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE

PLAYER:

  • Must have from the age of 15 and on compiled an outstanding performance record with notable personal and team achievements while competing at the high school, junior, senior, college and/or professional level over the required minimum of 8 years of more.
  • Must have developed his/her skills in the Manitoba minor and/or high school system and/or resided in the province during the period for which outstanding performance in claimed.
  • Must have represented the game with distinction in competition, either in or out of Manitoba, serving to bring credit to and enhance the status of lacrosse.
  • Must have retired from competing as a player and attained the minimum age of 40 years.

* Veteran Player: Category reserved for nominees whose playing careers occurred prior to 1950.

BUILDER:

  • Includes: coaches, managers, executives/administrators, referees.
  • Individual has attained a consistently high level of performance and achievements at the local, provincial, regional, national and/or international level over the required minimum of 10 years or more.
  • Individual's work and contribution to the game of lacrosse has been outstanding, demonstrating leadership and serving to enhance the development and status of the sport.

PLAYER / BUILDER:

  • Nominee must meet the criteria/combined requirements for both a Player AND a Builder.

Note: Should evaluation of the individual's performance fall short of the minimum requirement in either one of these categories during the assessment process, the nominee is then to be reclassified in that category where his/her qualifications meet the criteria (i.e., either Player OR Builder).

TEAM PERFORMANCE

  • Attained a high level of performance at the local, provincial, regional, national and/or international. Team would be recognized for its achievement:
    • (a) in one or more years (e.g.. won a national or international championship at any level). or
    • (b) prominence/domination in lacrosse at the local, provincial and/or regional level over a period of several years.
  • Team's success and recognition served to bring credit to and enhance the status of lacrosse.

OVERALL ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Overall rating of the nominee's successes and contribution based on the combined criteria as it relates to his/her complete performance.
  • In general, the Player, Builder or Team must demonstrate a consistently high/superior level of performance and achievement at the local, provincial, regional, national and/or international level that serves to bring recognition to the game of lacrosse and enhance the status of the sport.
