Sam Thompson played field lacrosse in the 1920s with the Winnipeg Argonauts and won the scoring title several times during that period.
When box lacrosse was introduced in 1932, Sam and his Argonaut teammates played their way to the Mann Cup final in Toronto, emblematic of the Canadian Senior Lacrosse Championship.
Besides being an excellent player, Sam became the President of the Argonaut Amateur Athletic Association which organized many sports in Winnipeg’s West End, including lacrosse, hockey, football, baseball and basketball.
